Style Me: Faux Leather Leggings – 9 ways

I hope that everyone who celebrates had a very Merry Christmas! I took last week “off” with a lot of family in town. We had such an amazing holiday. I can’t believe it’s over already. Who has big plans for NYE? I’m not leaving the house, we have friends coming to ring in the new year with us here. I am V. excited about this. Also, it’s friends we haven’t seen in pretty much forever, so it should be a good time. We are making fondue again, because it was THAT good. I can’t wait to share the recipe with you all!

So I was thinking about what to wear for NYE, since I will be positioned on my couch, and realized that my Spanx Faux Leather Leggings were the perfect place to start. This also got me to thinking that it would make a great blog post to share fun and easy ways to style them, because girl, I was clueless when I got them for my birthday.

We’ve all done it.  Bought a piece that we saw trending and HAD to have.  Then we got it home (or delivered) and realized we had zero clue how to style it.  That was me with the cult favorite Spanx FLL.

They are not new, but they are new to me. I started to see them everywhere and knew that I HAD to jump on the faux leather legging wagon.  And then I got them, and even though they were amazing, I jumped right off the wagon and onto the struggle bus.

They fit perfectly. 100% hug every curve and they hide exactly what you want them to, but past standing there in front of the mirror admiring how well they do actually hold everything in, I didn’t know the first thing about how to style them!

PS- this is so important for a new mama, or anyone that is a mama. All sorts of things happen after you go through pregnancy and childbirth, and many of us NEED something that will hold it all together. These are it. Yes, they are pricey (the regular style is $98 if not on sale) but I promise you they are WORTH IT. I got them as a gift and fully intend on getting another pair. I’m eyeing the leopard print ones. Or the moto ones. Or the… okay you get the picture.

I will note that they do run slightly small, if you are in between sizes definitely size up. I wear a Petite Medium and normally would be a small in leggings/pants. Many of the FLL styles come in Petite which is great if you are vertically challenged like me. The Petites are still a little long on me. I’m 5′ for reference!

So when it comes to styling these beauties, I was legit clueless when I got them. I did some a lot of research. I reached out to the fashion goddesses of Pinterest, and stalked anyone who I saw wearing them. I also did a LOT of playing dress up, and ultimately came up with 9 easy to wear looks for you that range from dressing it up for date night, to playing it cool at the grocery store or coffee shop.  I also think they are easy to duplicate, and change up a bit if you need to. I will try to give some swap ideas with each look, and provide the deets on them also. Linked up as much as I could in my ShopStyle, but some items are older so weren’t available. I pulled the links on those for as many as I could.

So, let’s get to it!

Look 1: Flannel & booties

For this look, I grabbed two of my staples. I love a good flannel shirt for Fall and Winter. I have this one from Express from a few years ago that is navy, black and red with a little bit of white. I love that it has both black and navy so that I can wear it pretty universally, and it has the button sleeves so I can wear long sleeves or rolled up. Thrown on with the FLL it’s super cute, and I love it with black booties.

Look 2: Utility jacket, tank, mules & chunky jewelry

For this look, I went with a neutral toned combo, and honestly I’ve had all these pieces for quite some time so finding the exact links was a little troublesome. I pulled together a look in the link below, but it’s missing a few of the exact items. I love an army green anything right now, so this utility jacket is right up my alley. Paired with a neutral colored leopard print tank or even a white tee would work. Throw on some mules (that I think always dress it up a little) and some chunky jewelry like this Betsey Johnson piece, and voila! An easy weekend look.

Look 3: Sherpa vest, flannel, sneakers and pom pom beanie

So this is a spin on the Flannel look I already mentioned. A little more casual, but gives a completely different vibe. I love wearing leopard as a neutral, so these slip on sneakers are the perfect addition to this look and will work with the plaid, I promise! Add a cozy vest and a pom pom beanie and you’re good to go. These leggings are SO versatile! I would also rock this look with winter boots (with the fur) if it was colder out.

Look 4: Sherpa, athletic sneakers and pom pom beanie

The beanie strikes again! This time going all out comfy and cozy in a big ol’ sherpa sweatshirt. I don’t really wear my actual sneakers outside of working out, but with this combination it was hard not to. First of all, they match the sweatshirt perfectly. I don’t usually go matchy-matchy that often either, but couldn’t help myself. It just is all tied together so nicely and I love the way the leggings look with sneakers. Very “athleisure” without wearing workout clothes. The hat was just a bonus.

Look 5: Tee, long cardigan, slip on sneakers & hat

For this look, I was channeling my inner blogger. Or something. I really love this hat and try to wear it as much as possible, so I felt like this was the perfect way to style the leggings! This might be my favorite look out of all of them!

Find yourself a cute graphic tee. I actually got a few from Express recently and want more. They are so easy to dress up or down, and can give completely different vibe depending on what is on it. Swap out the tee for a band tank to make it a little more edgy. Also, this entire look could be completely transformed in another way with a pair of pumps or even open toe booties with a good sized heel.

Look 6: Chambray top, blanket scarf, sneakers & chunky bracelet

I so wish these sneakers weren’t OOS. I get so many compliments on them when I wear them and I love to tell people that they’re Sketchers! No one would ever guess!! I got them at Target a few years ago, and they also came in white with a red stripe. Super cute, should have grabbed both! LOL.

So, I love a good scarf look. This one ties together the red so well. And I will wear Chambray any way that I can. This top is cute, it’s actually a little lower in the back. Got it through StitchFix, and it’s Liverpool brand. Here is a link to it, although I’m not sure if it will work. Add a Tory Burch wrap bracelet to any outfit and you’re good to go. Love this one!

Look 7: Chambray top, leopard print booties and hat

I know, I know, a few repeats (again). But I just can’t help myself! The leggings are so versatile, AND so is practically everything I have in my closet. Also, everything in my closet is leopard print if you hadn’t guessed that already.

But really, how cute is this combo. I know I already said I had a favorite, but this really might be the ONE. I could see this worn out during day or night. Super easy to pull off, anyone really could wear this outfit, and it’s one that can easily go from day to night.

Not feeling the bold leopard bootie? Swap it for a neutral tan or black. Not a fan of a hat? No biggie. Leave it out or find a cute headband that fits in with the color scheme of your shoes to wear instead. So easy breezy!

Look 8: Blazer, simple tank, statement necklace & heels

And I’m feeling pretty sassy and sweet with this number, if I do say so myself. I am loving this look and can’t wait to wear it out! Girls night anyone?? Who’s up for it.

So, I have a perfectly pink blazer, but really any blazer would do, even a black one would work. Because I had a hot pink jacket, I chose to go with white underneath. It is a high neck tank. If wearing a black blazer, I’d likely go with a brighter under shirt to break it up, unless all black is your jam, and then YDY, girl!

Look 9: Dressy top, bralette (or not!), black heels

Alright, chicklets, we’re down to Look #9 and I am really digging this vibe. It’s such a perfect date night outfit. I couldn’t find this exact top, but found a few that are super cute. It’s low cut so a bralette is perfectly paired. It also has a sassy ruffle at the bottom, which you can’t really see in the photo that well. It is also a little shorter than I would normally wear, but with the leggings I don’t mind. During the day I try to cover the bum, but I think it’s more appropriate to wear a full on leather legging after hours. Paired with pumps I think it’s the perfect combo. A nude colored pump would work well also, and of course if you’re not into red, you can easily swap out the color top.

Bralette: Free People (linked exact, and less expensive dupes!)
