This time of year brings such joy! But it can also bring a lot of stress. Life gets hectic around the holidays, there are presents to buy, and oh-so-many parties. Many of the festivities happen straight from the office. This is even true outside of the holiday season, if you’re grabbing cocktails with a girlfriend, or headed to date night.
So the big question is: how do you take your look from day to night!? If you’re here, then you are probably wondering the same thing. I’m going to share an easy daytime look and how to transition it to nighttime. I will also give a few tips to glam that nighttime look up even more for a NYE event! I’ll give you all the products used and some of my other favorites that could be easily worked in!
So, keep in mind, you’re starting from whatever your “daytime” look is. For me, I don’t wear a ton of makeup on an every day basis, but still probably more than some. Completely understand! But for reference, here is a list of everything I had on my face at the start of this video.
Easy peasy. The key here is to keep everything very simple and neutral. It’s essentially the “no makeup” makeup look (plus eyeliner and a little heavier mascara) and this is actually my every day makeup look. I’ll do a video on how to achieve this look, but these are all of the products I use on a day to day basis. I switch up the lip gloss, of course, but everything else stays the same. If you want to add a neutral eyeshadow you can certainly do that, too.
- Primer
- Highlighting concealer
- Foundation
- CC Powder
- Highlight powder
- Brows
- Eyeliner pencil for waterline
- Optional liquid liner (we will line the top, it’s personal preference)
- Setting Spray
- Lash Primer & Mascara
- Lip Gloss
So, it’s the holiday season and it’s a Monday, so of course that means there’s an after-work event! You’ll head straight there from the office. First thing’s first, the outfit. My biggest suggestion here is go with something you can easily add to. That dresses up/down with the addition of a good heel, a statement necklace. So for this example I chose black jeans because they are very universal. For daytime, I had an oversized sweater and mules on, with my hair in a TK. #momlife
For night, I changed my top into a black, off the shoulder number with a ruffle, and added an animal print d’orsay pump. Also added a statement necklace to jazz it up a bit. So easy, and changes a black jean into an element of a fabulous outfit.
But then how on earth do you take your makeup from day to night without having to completely redo your face?! I’m here for you, girlfriend. Here’s a video to tell you what’s what about taking your look from day to night.
Wow. It’s amazing what a little refresh will do for your look!! Assuming you are starting with what we have listed above, or along those lines, it’s really not hard. You’ll need to bring the essentials to work with you, and can easily touch up in the bathroom mirror! Below is a list, and what I use (for the most part).
Note that my video obviously is longer because I’m talking you through it. If I was doing this and not gabbing away, it would probably take me 10 minutes. Maybe 15 for someone who isn’t as used to doing a look like this. But it is not something that would take you very long at all, and can easily be done before heading out of the office.
- Refreshing spritzer
- Bronzer for contouring
- Blush & Highlight
- Eyeshadow (you’ll need a palatte, or at least three shades. Light/neutral for the base, medium/dark for the crease overall and dark to go right in the crease line and as liner on the bottom)
- I am going to stick with a more smoky look in this video, using a purple tones.
- Setting spray
- Lashes (note: mine are from Amazon)
- Lipstick – in this case, I went with a soft pink as to not off set the eye. If I kept my eye a little simpler, I would have gone with a bold red lip.
What do you think of the before and after? Would you rock this look at your next Holiday nighttime party?
